To all Educators with a heart from my own.
If there was ever a time that you’ve thought to yourself that public education was complex, that thought has proably become even more prevelant now that we’re faced with educating students during COVID-19. The pandemic has shed a brighter light on education inequitites and desparities across the country. However, school districts, particularly those located in disadvantaged areas, have made great strides to continue serving breakfast and lunches in the wake of abnormal instruction and learning. Teachers across the country have made it their obligation to make safe visits to their student’s homes to see that they were well. Despite the current circumstances teachers have payed tribute to their graduates of 2020 in the most creative ways possible. I am so proud to be apart of a profession of educators across the world who have shown their dedication and resilience in the storm of this pandemic. Thank you for being a teacher with a heart. It’s because of this moment in time that we’ve shown many the OBVIOUS, we really LOVE what we do.
Once upon a time most teachers ONLY intergrated technology into their instruction for reasons pertaining to professional standards and receiving a perfect evaluation. If your district was able to afford it, you had at your possesion Smartboards, Mimeo boards, document cameras, laptops, I-pads you name it the list goes on. Although, it was available for teachers they’ve always had the option of including the technology into their instruction. Today, we find ourselves with no other alternative but ONLY to use technology for instruction. Our past professional development (PD) trainings on technology and it’s effectiveness on classroom instruction has now risen to this occasion. I consider myself a seasoned educator and even if you’re not, you’d more than likely agree that more learning opportunities on digital resources and using technology for remote learning can benefit us all. These unprecedented times have provoked me to begin a blog about educational trends where educators can support and collaborate with each other as I do foresee the current events to be a pivital turning point in education, unlike, what we’ve once known.
It’s funny to think about a time, during my graduate studies, I wrote a response to a post in regards to whether I think teachers will ever be replaced by technology. Yeah, right! I wrote about how the lack of social emotional support can never be obtained from simply learning with a computer. I wrote that technology will never replace the nurturing characteristics of a teacher. How naive was I. What we’ve just experienced was and is a game changer. Social distancing brought forth with this pandemic have sparked new challenges for the economy and especially the field of education. We are now transitioning the use of our best instructional practices to fit a virtual learning conglomerate of teacher-led, student-led, parent-led expectations along with teaching and learning at new levels of accountability. However so, we have shown others around the country and our world that we LOVE what we do. If you’re like me, you are preparing yourself to take on the new challenges ahead with the same resilience. I’ll just close with my philosophy of education which is, HOW children learn will NEVER change. Children will always have varying abilities and different learning styles. However, the WAY children learn will ALWAYS change. The world changes and so does our need for innovative instruction and technology. This belief has also paved the way for Curricula 4U!
